Awana at FBC Fenton — What It Is and Why It Matters for Your Kids
Every Wednesday night at 6:30 PM, kids at FBC Fenton spend an hour hiding God's Word in their hearts — and having a great time doing it. Here's a full guide to Awana and why it's one of the most valuable things your child can be part of.
## Awana at FBC Fenton — What It Is and Why It Matters
Every Wednesday night at 6:30 PM, children at First Baptist Church of Fenton gather for one of the most effective discipleship programs ever created for kids: Awana.
If you've heard of Awana but aren't sure what it is — or if you've never heard of it at all — this is your complete guide.

## What Is Awana?
Awana (an acronym for *Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed*, from 2 Timothy 2:15) is a globally recognized children's discipleship program that has been shaping the faith of kids for over 70 years. It operates in more than 100 countries and has helped tens of millions of children memorize Scripture, understand the gospel, and grow as followers of Jesus.
The program combines three elements that make it uniquely effective:
**Scripture Memory** — Children work through age-appropriate handbooks filled with Bible verses and gospel content. Memorizing Scripture is not busywork. Psalm 119:11 says, "I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you." What children hide in their hearts at ages 5–12 stays with them for the rest of their lives.
**Gospel Teaching** — Every Awana meeting includes time for large-group instruction in the gospel and biblical truth. Children hear clearly and regularly who God is, what sin is, who Jesus is, and what it means to follow Him.
**Games and Fun** — Awana takes seriously the fact that children learn through play. Game time is a genuine highlight — energetic, engaging, and designed to make Wednesday nights something kids actually look forward to.

- **Puggles** — Ages 2–3 (an introductory program focused on simple gospel truth and Bible stories)
- **Cubbies** — PreK and Kindergarten (foundational Bible truths and beginning Scripture memory)
- **Sparks** — Grades 1–2 (builds on gospel foundations with more extensive Scripture memory)
- **T&T (Truth & Training)** — Grades 3–5 (deeper biblical content, more advanced memory work, and character development)
Each club has its own handbook, leaders, and meeting structure — age-appropriate from top to bottom.

## Why We Believe in Awana
We have seen the fruit of this program in our congregation. Kids who went through Awana as children carry the verses they memorized into their adult lives. The gospel content they absorbed at eight years old surfaces in moments of crisis at thirty-five. The friendships they formed on Wednesday nights last decades.
Awana works because it is built on a principle that does not change: hiding God's Word in a child's heart at a young age produces fruit that outlasts the program, outlasts childhood, and outlasts even the most difficult seasons of adult life.
We believe it is one of the most valuable hours your child's week can contain.
